R. Rescue PM/FF

The company I work for is very small, running about 5 ambulances a day and having an employee base of about 30 people. The assumptions Im gonna make on this sampling are just that, but its my blog so Ill assume whatever I want. Of those 30 people 26 are looking to get into the fire service, 1 nursing school, 1 physicians assistant school, 1 medical school, and 1 law enforcement. All of those 26 people admit that they hate medicine and just want to be firefighters because thats where the glory is at.

How do you explain to someone that EMS is the biggest part of their job without question? That they need to be good paramedics and good firefighters, that it is a dual role service where we live and where they wanna work. They look at the fire engines in awe and dream of pulling hose off the back to that big structure fire. But what they should also be doing periodically is dreaming of pulling that ALS gear out of that compartment and working that medical. Ive seen them argue over who gets to cut the car because they dont wanna take the patient. The patient is the most important aspect of the call, its why you were toned.

I just wish they would remember that and work on being great medical providers and great firefighters...because both jobs are important.
